In 1967--68, Feeny was au pair in a French family in the 16th arrondissment of Paris, speaking virtually no English for an entire year. She returned to the US to get a Summa Cum Laude BA from Queens College of the CUNY in French with a minor in Spanish, and has an advanced certificate in Spanish from Forester Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica, 1990. She also holds a certificate to teach ESL from the School of International Training, based in Brattleboro VT..

Her love of languages and facility for them allowed her to teach classes in NYC during college and also over the past 20 years during trips to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Montpellier, France. It's rare for the Mexican government to allow a US citizen to teach Spanish in Mexico, but her credentials and experience merited working papers to teach Spanish legally anywhere in Mexico. She calls languages her sport and her first love and adores teaching, though she now accepts only the most motivated students because of limited time.
